Of course if you are now suffering, or have suffered, continued bouts of emotional and/or physical abuse, there is no time like the present to move on with your life and file for a divorce. If this is not the case, know from the outset that every relationship comes with problems.
You have to be able to picture yourself without your spouse and determine that the quality of your life will improve without them. If you are not able to do this, you may wish to seek marriage counseling before filing for divorce.
If you do decide to file for divorce, you must have realistic expectations of the divorce process. Figure out the net income of both you and your spouse and factor the additional cost of maintaining two (2) households so that you will have a good idea of the money that is available (or not available). Picture your world with your children being under your care only part of the time as courts in most cases will award your spouse substantial time with them.
